There are two
main Retrofit Sections of the Ontario Fire Code which landlords will
be required to comply with: Retrofit Section 9.5; dealing with low
rise residential buildings, any building from a triplex up to and
including a six storey building and Retrofit Section 9.8; dealing
with duplex dwellings.
The
retrofit provisions are based on a minimum level of life safety for
occupants of existing buildings and is the responsibility of the
owner of the property to ensure compliance with the retrofit
regulation and requirements. The owner must also confirm that the
property complies with zoning and other applicable bylaws.
